Community Board 7 Takes Sustainability Seriously

Community Board 7 offers a wealth of important sustainability resources to its residents via its Green Guide, the aim of which is to promote sustainability on the Upper West Side by engaging residents in education, advocacy, and direct efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of the community.

In addition to the plethora of resources available via the Green Guide, one can also learn about The Carbon Squeeze, a program started by Upper West Siders to leverage community resources to reduce carbon emissions.  Upper West Side Recycling and Wearable Collections organizes textile drives to keep textiles out of landfills.

CB7 also makes available information regarding reducing bottled water waste through information about New York tap water. Bottled water contributes to landfills as well as greenhouse gas emissions, given that it requires fuel to move water from its source to its consumers. Given that New York has such high quality tap water, City residents can reduce their greenhouse gas footprint and contributions to landfills via utilizing the City’s existing water infrastructure.
